IT Leader: Bank of Bird-in-Hand

In 2013, Bank of Bird-in-Hand realized a need in the Lancaster County community for a different banking experience – one that focuses on relationships rather than transactions, one that was willing to go off the beaten path to meet its customers’ needs. With a mission to provide quality banking services with integrity in the markets we serve, Bank of Bird-in-Hand has grown significantly from our original location in the heart of Lancaster County’s Plain Community, in the quaint village of Bird-in-Hand. We now provide our relationship-driven Community Banking Services through nine (9) brick and mortar branches and four (4) Mobile Branch buses (Gelt buses) covering Nineteen (19) stops throughout Lancaster, Lebanon, Southern Chester, Northern Dauphin and Berks Counties.

As a result of continued growth, the bank is looking to add an Information Technology Leader to our team.

Position Summary
The IT Leader role requires strategic, collaborative and solution-oriented leadership and is responsible for the development, implementation, and enhancement of the Bank’s technology functions. The IT Leader will engage with key stakeholders across the organization, aligning technology strategy with the Bank’s strategic plan and enterprise risk appetite, while creating business value. A key element of the IT Leader's role is collaborating with executive management to drive the Bank forward and deliver optimal return on investment.

Areas of Responsibility Include:
Strategic Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and implement a forward-looking IT strategy aligned with the Bank’s strategic plan and mission.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on emerging technologies and digital trends as they align to priorities.
  • Build strong partnerships with leaders across the entire organization. Prioritize communication and relationships to better enable strategic initiatives, effective operational management, and user-centered services.
  • Present metrics and any regulatory-required reporting to the Board of Directors.

Technology Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team with diverse skills and perspectives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, customer service and continuous improvement within IT and working collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Oversee enterprise systems, , infrastructure and other digital systems and/or modernizations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain annual budget for technology, ensuring strategic allocation of resources.
  • Enhance and execute an enterprise-wide Business Continuity Management program, ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of all IT services.
  • Enable process improvements by reviewing any technology incidents and identifying lessons learned and application of controls to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
  • Work with the Chief Enterprise Risk Officer on regulatory and audit support and remediation, accountable for the timely resolution of technology findings of risk assessments, internal and external audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Manage relationships, procurement and contracts with vendors to ensure high quality and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Stay current and adhere to applicable banking laws and regulations related to information technology, participate in appropriate associations/agencies in support of remaining current and being aware of opportunities in the technology environment.

Desired Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive IT leadership experience, including key roles in strategic initiatives as well as operational priorities and governance.
  • Proven success working in dynamic environments and adjusting to shifting goals and opportunities.
  • A proactive and customer-oriented approach, bringing curiosity and solution-oriented energy to ideas and opportunities, while balancing demands on budget and resources.
  • Experience in financial and/or banking sector, and familiarity with core systems, such as Jack Henry, is desired.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission and strategic initiatives of the Bank, including our focus on providing value to our community.
