Job Description:
The Director of Information Technology will be responsible for overseeing the IT Department and will report to the CIO or equivalent executive. This position will be actively involved in collaborating with business and other IT leaders in developing and driving an overall IT strategy; this includes the effective use of existing applications; development/implementation of new applications; creating an innovative strategic roadmap; adoption of Agile software development methodology; and design and implementation of security best practices to support business needs.


At the onset, this individual will be responsible for leading two teams:  one spearheading a significant transition/migration from a homegrown legacy system to an off-the-shelf product; and another dedicated to developing, maintaining, and enhancing our customer facing portal.

This individual will also be responsible for recruiting, developing, and managing both internal and external resources pertaining to these vital projects and our ongoing information technology needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, manage, mentor, and motivate an IT team of developers, business analysts and system administrators inclusive of training/skill-building opportunities and career pathing
  • Effectively and methodically transition from Company’s legacy system to the Cargo Wise platform
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance the company’s customer facing portal
  • Create an IT infrastructure comprised of internal and external resources to support the Company’s vision with associated performance metrics
  • Develop an understanding of US Customs regulations, shipping processes, and customer needs
  • Lead Agile software development processes
  • Implement and manage software development best practices
  • Work with business leaders to develop and implement effective and innovative solutions
  • Drive strategic planning for the future of systems and applications
  • Identify, onboard, and manage any necessary vendor relationships
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings with stakeholders, providing leadership
  • Consult with business analysts to understand business requirements and ensure all applications are meeting Company needs, while generating ideas for enhancements to support efficiency and growth
  • Lead requirements gathering, application selection, and the implementation of new applications and post-implementation activities to maximize ROI and end-user satisfaction
  • Develop comprehensive testing strategy for new applications, application updates, and upgrades
  • Identify impediments and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems
  • Maintain code quality, proper and secure change management controls, and organization
  • Ensure quality assurance testing is effectively managed, adjusting as necessary
  • Actively manage IT helpdesk process
  • Ensure IT security and management, and continued focus on, and implementation of, industry best practices
  • Manage datacenter environment
  • Ensure disaster recovery plans are current, in place, and tested
  • Develop and manage IT budget and effective ROI strategy
Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred or equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience leading software development teams operating in an agile/scrum-based environment
  • Prior project management experience required
  • Prior employee management experience, inclusive of employee development
  • Experience with PHP, vanilla Javascript, React, VueJS, and CSS/SASS, and RESTful APIs required
  • Prior experience with Progress bases databases is a plus but not required
  • Prior experience with Microsoft CRM and Marketing Automation systems would be a plus
  • Experience leading large-scale system transitions required
  • Proficient in project management principles, software, and leadership; PMP/Scrum certification a plus but not required
  • Proficient understanding of source code control and versioning with Git
  • Proficient with JIRA or other issue tracking software
  • Experience leading IT infrastructure and security initiatives
  • Prior experience with Citrix, VOIP telephones, and networking a plus
  • Self-motivated and directed with strong organizational skills and keen ability to manage a team through change
  • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills; customer service oriented
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.  Ability to train users and communicate procedures and changes related to technology.
