Summary
The Staff Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations for the firm while actively identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen internal controls. This role combines traditional accounting responsibilities with a strong emphasis on process optimization, automation, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance the accuracy and scalability of financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Responsibilities
- Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Analyze financial data and investigate variances.
- Support financial reporting and management reporting activities.
- Assist with audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
- Maintain documentation for accounting procedures and internal controls.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Identify inefficiencies in accounting workflows and recommend improvements.
- Design and implement process enhancements to streamline financial operations.
- Develop and maintain standardized accounting procedures and documentation.
- Leverage accounting systems, spreadsheets, and automation tools to reduce manual work.
- Partner with operations, FP&A, and IT teams to improve data flows and reporting accuracy.
- Track and measure improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and cycle times.
Data & Analysis
- Build and maintain reports and dashboards for accounting metrics.
- Analyze trends and operational drivers impacting financial results.
- Provide insights to support better financial and operational decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience
- Experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting.
- Exposure to process improvement initiatives or system optimization preferred.
- Deep understanding of Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Technical Skills
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., SAGE Intacct, QuickBooks, etc.)
- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies and propose practical solutions.
